How to develop reading comprehension?

Just read! That is the way to do it. Read anything that you can lay your hands on. There is no dearth of reading materials. Such materials include letters, advertisements, books – fiction and classics, magazines, newspapers, brochures, reports, instructions, stories, etc. Reading helps improve one’s vocabulary, develop one’s linguistic ability and power of comprehension.
A rich vocabulary will enable one to have a better understanding of what the reading text is about, what it implies and at the same time familiarize you with sentence structures. It often happens that one does not always know the meaning of all the words in a text. The most sensible thing to do in such a situation is to immediately consult a dictionary, refer to the word, get its meaning, learn a new word and in the process enrich one’s vocabulary This is, however, not  possible in an examination hall. Here the best option would be to guess the meaning of the word in the context of the text or sentence.
